Truck Tyre Sizes We Stock

Platinum Truck Tyres supplies and fits the most common truck tyre sizes used across Melbourne's south-east, from light rigids through to prime movers and trailers. Stock moves quickly, so this page is a guide to the sizes we work with every day — call for current price and availability rather than assuming a tyre is on the shelf.

If your size is not listed here, ask anyway. We regularly source less common sizes for fleet and owner-operator customers, and we can discuss new, second-hand and retread options in the sizes that suit your truck and budget.

Common Sizes We Work With

  • 11R22.5 — One of the most common truck tyre sizes in Australia, widely used on steer, drive and trailer axles of heavy rigids, prime movers and trailers.
  • 295/80R22.5 — A popular low-profile 22.5 inch size found on many modern prime movers and heavy rigids, commonly used on steer and drive positions.
  • 275/70R22.5 — A lower-profile 22.5 inch size often seen on trailers and some drive axles where a lower overall diameter is required.
  • 215/75R17.5 — A common 17.5 inch size for light and medium trucks, trailers and smaller rigids used in local distribution work.

Steer, Drive and Trailer — What's the Difference?

Steer axle. Steer tyres carry the front axle and do the turning. They need even wear, stable handling and good wet grip, and they are typically the most carefully inspected tyres on the truck. Steer tyres are usually replaced before they reach the wear limits you might accept elsewhere.

Drive axle. Drive tyres sit on the powered axle and deliver traction. Deeper tread and block-style patterns are common, and drive tyres work hardest under load, on hills and in stop-start delivery work around industrial estates.

Trailer axle. Trailer tyres follow the load. They need to handle scrubbing in tight turns and long hours at highway speed. Trailer positions are often where retreads and well-chosen second-hand tyres deliver their best value.

Not sure which position your tyre belongs on? Tell us the size and where it sits on the truck when you call, and we will talk through the options. The right tyre for a steer axle on highway work is rarely the right tyre for a trailer axle doing tight city deliveries.
